Former judge D. Prabhakar Rao died on Sunday under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Hyderabad. The deceased was an accused in Gali Janardhan Reddy's cash-for-bail scam. Prabhakar Rao was found dead at his residence in east Maredpally and family members said he died of cardiac arrest.

The police suspect his death to be suicide.An atopsy was being done on his body at Gandhi Hospital. Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arretsed Prabhakar Rao in 2012 in connection with the investigation into the bail scam involving former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy. The judge was accused of making parallel attempts to secure bail for the mining baron. Prabhakar Rao was arrested in the sensational case in 2012 and was later released on bail.
Prabhakar was a family court judge in Srikakulam when he was arrested by the ACB for his role in cash for bail scam. The judge was staying alone at his home and he had reportedly told his friends that he was falsely implicated in the case. Tukaramgate police registered a case of suspicious death under 174 CrPC and have initiated investigation.
