For a sensitive filmmaker who beautifully captures love scenes on the silver screen, it is not surprising that Sukumar too has a love story of his own. In his latest interview following the success of Nannaku Prematho, Sukumar went nostalgic about his love story which later ended up in a happy marriage.
During the release of his debut film Aarya in 2004, Sukumar was at Sudarshan Theater at RTC X Roads and a young girl from nowhere approached Sukumar upon knowing from her friends that he was the director of the film. She asked him what was his job on the film since all the work was done by the technicians and actors.This unexpected question surely hurt Sukumar, who patiently explained her the challenging role of a director in making a film. Impressed, the girl asked for his autograph. Instead, a cheeky Sukumar gave her his mobile number asking her to keep in touch. Needless to say, love blossomed between them in no time.
Sukumar further revealed that he married the same girl, Hamsini, in 2009 much against her parent's wish. Apparently, her parents, who didn't want the groom from film industry, were fine with Sukumar after marriage. The couple is blessed with two children, a girl and a boy.
