Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni was named captain of Rising Pune Supergaints, owned by Sanjiv Goenka for the upcoming season of the IPL. The announcement was made a while ago by the owners who unveiled the team logo.
The Sanjeev Goenka-owned franchise will be called Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG).The group has announced that the abbreviated name is the same as group's name: RP-SG. Goenka also said that former India captain and his co-owner at ISL football franchise Atletico de Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly has no role in this team.
Dhoni was earlier captain of the successful Chennai Super Kings, which was found guilty of match-fixing. The Pune franchisee is owned by New Rising, a subsidiary of CESC.Dhoni was picked by draft earlier this month. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith and Faf du Plessis were the other four players picked during the draft by the Pune team.
2016 edition of the IPL will be the first time MS Dhoni will play for a team other than the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
