Braving all the odds, Young Tiger NTR's Nannaku Prematho released on the 13th Jan and emerged victorious amid heavy competition at the box-office. Even though the film attained mixed talk on its opening day, the Sankranthi season helped the film sustain the challenges and the film has now crossed the $1 million mark in the US.
Directed by Sukumar, Nannaku Prematho has many similarities with the director's last film, Superstar Mahesh Babu's 2014 film, 1 Nenokkadine. Coincidentally, both the films released during Sankranthi, got mixed reviews and both the films are class films and show their protagonists' emotional relationship towards their parents and are full of mind games.
However, Nannaku Prematho escaped the shattering disaster which 1 Nenokkadine had to face a couple of Sankranthis ago. The reason behind Nannaku Prematho holding to its ground despite the slight initial backlash was the team's promotional strategy.
While Nenokkadine suffered majorly due to its confusing screenplay and due to the makers failing to prepare the fans for a psychological thriller until the release, Nannaku Prematho makers did not commit the same mistake and NTR himself aggressively promoted the film saying that the film's screenplay is linear and has no confusing or mind bending scenes.
Also, the Sankranthi release played a crucial role in Nannaku Prematho's success along with NTR's impeccable crowd pulling capacity. Where as Mahesh could not do the same feat for Nenokkadine and Aagadu. All said and done, it is heartening to see a star hero's film learning its lessons from another star hero film's failures and finally ending up as a box-office hit.
