A school in Chandampet of Nalgonda district has remained closed for 15 days as rumours of the building and the surroundings being haunted spread like wildfire in the village.
The government school with 22 students, was shut down by the gram panchayat as it was believed to be haunted. It is reported that the school is run by a vonlunteer group as there is no government teacher available.
The rumours of the school being tormented by ghosts began when a woman in the village fell ill. The school being close to a grave yard, another woman in the village falling seriously ill, added fuel to the fire.
As the news of the school not functioning reached the Mandal Education Officer (MEO) Saamya Naik, he visited the school premises and also met the parents of the students studying in the school. On being asked about the reason behind not sending the children to school, the parents explained that they were worried about their children’s safety at the school.
Though the MEO tried to counsel the parents, they were not willing to send their children to school, also they questioned him if he would take responsibility in case on any mishaps.
The helpless MEO took the issue to the notice of higher officials.
