India tops in sending engineers to the US: Report..!!

Among Asian countries, India continues its trend of being the top country of birth for immigrant scientists and engineers to the US, says a latest report, adding that with 950,000 out of Asia's total 2.96 million, India's 2013 figure represented an 85 percent increase from 2003.
Overall, the number of immigrant scientists and engineers in the US has risen to 18 percent from an earlier 16 percent and 57 percent of those were born in Asia.
From 2003 to 2013, the number of scientists and engineers residing in the US rose from 21.6 million to 29 million.
This 10-year increase included significant growth in the number of immigrant scientists and engineers, from 3.4 million to 5.2 million, said the report from the National Science Foundation's National Centre for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES).
In 2013, 63 percent of US immigrant scientists and engineers were naturalised citizens, while 22 percent were permanent residents and 15 percent were temporary visa holders.
"Also since 2003, the number of scientists and engineers from the Philippines increased 53 percent and the number from China, including Hong Kong and Macau, increased 34 percent," the report added.
The NCSES report found that immigrant scientists and engineers were more likely to have earned post-baccalaureate degrees than their US-born counterparts.
In 2013, 32 percent of immigrant scientists reported their highest degree was a master's (compared to 29 percent of US-born counterparts) and 9 percent reported it was a doctorate (compared to 4 percent of US-born counterparts).
"The most common fields of study for immigrant scientist and engineers in 2013 were engineering, computer and mathematical sciences and social and related sciences," the findings showed.
Over 80 percent of immigrant scientists and engineers were employed in 2013, the same percentage as their US-born counterparts.
Among the immigrants in the science and engineering workforce, the largest share (18 percent) worked in computer and mathematical sciences, while the second-largest share (eight percent) worked in engineering.
Three occupations -- life scientist, computer and mathematics scientist and social and related scientist -- saw substantial immigrant employment growth from 2003 to 2013, the report said.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering.

No Sentiments For KCR..!!

Following the untimely death of MLA Kishta Reddy (Congress) due to a heart attack last year, his constituency of Narayankhed in Sangareddy has fallen vacant.

The election commission has now announced that the by-election will be held on February 13. Normally, the tradition is that when a sitting MLA dies, then the party to which he belonged would get an opportunity to get its candidate elected unanimously.
But KCR has said that the TRS would contest the by poll, forcing the hand of the TDP as well. This may be a wise decision by KCR but is it the right thing to do?
As the TRS already has a majority in the Assembly, does it need to contest this by poll as well? If he goes about things this way, KCR will end up making more enemies than he can handle in future.
Everything seems hunky dory when the going’s good, but when the bad time starts, it tends o be a windfall of calamities.

Know How Many Gods Balakrishna Worships..??

How many gods does Balakrishna worship? He answered this question himself in a recent promotional interview ahead of Dictator's release.

While Balayya Babu is a great believer in Muhurtam and Vastu and factors them in every move of his, nothing much is known about his spiritualism.
He said his father NTR never used to spend much time on poojas and worship. Before going out on a shoot, NTR used to simply fold his hands and close his eyes before the image of Lord Venkateswara. On occasional Mondays, NTR used to perform Abhishekam to Lord Siva.
But, when it comes to Balayya Babu, worship takes at least a hour and half. He worships Saraswati, Durga, Lakshmi and Parvathi as he was born in Moola Nakshatram.
He also likes to worship Hanuman, Subramanya and Narasimha Swami. Of course, Lord Venkateswara is worshiped by everyone in the NTR family and even Balakrishna is no exception.
Everyone knows how he goes around the Narasimha temples in the state if his film does well. Let's see if he undertakes a tour of Narasimha temples in both the Telugu states with Dictator's result.

Jaya Puts Modi In A Spot..!!

Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalitha has cleverly put the NDA government and Modi in a spot of bother over the Jalikattu issue.

It is known that the Supreme Court has given a stay order on Jalikattu despite the Center according permission for the same.
Now Jayalalitha wants the center to pass an ordinance permitting Jalikattu thereby paving the route for it.
If the Modi government goes to the extreme of passing an ordinance, they will be criticized for having mocked a Supreme Court judgement. Besides, it will be Jayalalitha who will walk away with the credit.
On the other hand, if they don’t, then their attempts to strengthen themselves down South in states, like Tamil Nadu and AP will receive a setback.
Jayalalitha can always play to the gallery saying that the NDA was responsible for Jalikattu not being allowed.
Either way, she wins! It’s like giving special status to AP. If they do, Naidu will walk away with the credit, if they don’t, then Naidu can use it against them.

Fact Sheet: Neither Can Be Trusted..!!

KTR says he will resign from the Cabinet if his Party fails to win more than 100 seats in the GHMC polls.

Revanth Reddy has accepted the challenge saying that there is no way TRS will win 100 seats. He is willing to go into political oblivion if the TRS actually reaches the 100 mark.
Fact of the matter is, neither politician can be trusted for the simple reason that politicians cannot be trusted at all.
KTR’s dad said that he would make a Dalit as the first Chief Minister of Telangana. And Revanth Reddy’s recent cash-for-vote scandal does not paint him in a good light either.
Therefore, even if TRS wins more than a 100 or less than a 100, what we can be assured of is both KTR and Revanth Reddy hanging around on the political scene.

Sachin Tendulkar recalls near-death experience from school days..!!

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday recalled a scary experience which he underwent during his school days while crossing the rail tracks here. The former India batsman was speaking at the launch of two initiatives by the Mumbai Railway Police

"Right from the age of 11, I travelled by trains in Mumbai. When I travelled, I had a kit-bag. I have also experienced jostling, being pushed in and out of trains...these experiences will stay with me," Tendulkar said. "In school, I had gone to Vile Parle to a friend's place. We -- five or six boys -- had practiced in the morning and had gone to his place for lunch.

Then we decided to watch a movie. After watching the movie, we got late for practice and hence we decided to cross railway tracks and go to the platform, and board the train at Dadar," he added. The 42-year-old talking about the horrific incident said, "While crossing the tracks, halfway, we realised that trains were coming fast on all the tracks.

We ended up crouching on our knees in between the tracks with our kits. That was a scary experience and then onwards we never crossed train tracks." Tendulkar also urged all rail commuters not to sit on train roofs and to avoid travel if the train is crowded. "I feel in today's world every minute matters, there is competition everywhere. I feel, a lot of time (the thinking is) if we cross railway tracks, then we will reach quicker, there will be benefit of five minutes instead of crossing the bridge while going to the other platform.

These are small things -- one, you are breaking the law, and you are risking life for five minutes," he said. "Your family and friends are waiting for you back home and if you reach there five minutes later it really does not matter. It is important to be there, safe and sound, rather than be in hospital. I will request: do not sit on the train roof and travel if the train is crowded. Everyone is hard pressed for time, but still (I ask you), leave that train, be patient and do not break rules," Tendulkar said.

Kamal to turn ‘Censor Master’..??

Of late Central Board of Film Certification is facing a lot of flak and mired in controversies for the decisions it is taking, not taking the contemporary interpretation into consideration. Hence, a committee has been set up under the leadership of Shyam Benegal to look into the functioning of the Censor Board.

More members are going to be added to the committee. Kamal Haasan is going to join the committee to represent the South Films because a lot of South movies are making impact across the country. Besides Kamal, two more reputed technicians, namely Shaji Karun (Malayalam) and Goutam Ghosh(Bengal) are going to join the committee.

Director irritated with “Lady Director''..!!

Film maker Nandini Reddy’s next movie ‘Kalyana Vaibhogame’ is soon coming to theatres and hence she is busy promoting her film. People talk referring her as ‘Lady Director’ which irks her like anything. A director is a director, why refer to the gender when women are foraying into every field questions Nandini.

‘Alaa Modalayyindi’ had given her immense recognition in the industry. But when it was in the post production stage, a popular director watched the film for the sake of overseas rights. He said it is total crap. Next, another top distribution house watched the movie and didn’t turn up to ask for the rights for the film.
But ‘Alaa Modalayyindi’ gave life to many in the industry like Nithya Menon, Taagubotu Ramesh and hero Nani earned craze as the most natural actor. With ‘Kalyana Vaibhogame’, heroine Malavika Nair is waiting to get recognition as a performer.

Nag Unhappy With The Sankranthi Clash..!!

Handsome Akkineni young lad Akhil's much-hyped debut film Akhil released on Diwali last year and ended up as a huge disaster. The film was made with a whopping 40 plus crore budget, but its box-office result disappointed not just the fans and buyers but also the Akkineni family.
In a promotional interview for his Sankranthi release Soggade Chinni Nayana, Akhil's father Nagarjuna said that he too was extremely disappointed with Akhil's failure. Stating that the film's director and producer put in their best efforts, Nag said that days are gone for the routine dances and fights in Telugu films.

Nag then said that Akhil realized his mistake now and has decided to select scripts which have a strong content. Nag then revealed how he, after facing a series of miserable flops, met Mani Ratnam and did Geethanjali that suited his sensibilities and even paved a success path to his career.

Nag finally concluded saying that he advised Akhil to follow the same and only work in films that match his sensibilities.

Airfare war: IndiGo sells tickets at Rs 806 only..!!

As per the offer, the bookings will remain open from January 13 to January 15, 2016 and the travel must be commenced and completed between February 3, 2016 and April 12, 2016. Sources say, the sharp fall in aviation fuel might be the reason for a drop in airfares.

Earlier, many domestic air carriers have come up with several discount offers to lure in their customers. The budget carrier GoAir offered fares as low as Rs. 601 as part of a promotional offer. SpiceJet put on sale many seats with fares starting as low as Rs. 716 (excluding taxes) as part of its 'New Year Sale'. Join hands to help Pavala Shyamala..!!

Pavala Shyamala, one of the most prolific character artistes in the history of Telugu cinema, has been living in poverty.  In an interview, she has talked about her pathetic conditions. The artiste with 34 years of wide experience in theatre has been seen in hundreds of films.  In at least 100 films, she has played a key character.

It is a pity and a sad commentary on the state of affairs that such a great artiste is now struggling to make ends meet.  "We don't get to eat for a session every day.  My daughter fell from third storey when she was in Degree.  This has left her diseased.  I have visited many doctors, but I don't have the money to pay for her surgery," she said.

In the past, Pawan Kalyan and now Bandla Ganesh have helped her with money.  However, she needs more.

We would like to do our bit to help a human being in misery.  Below are the details of the account number of the artiste.  You may credit the amount to this account of Pavala Shyamala to help her in this crisis.

Ram to be directed by same director..!!

Nenu Sailaja has been a special film for Ram.  After a long hiatus, Ram got a clear BO hit with this film.  Therefore, it is natural that Kishore Tirumala is in the good books of Ram.

We learn that the debutante director is going to be Ram's director, again.  It is going to be a rom-com, again.  Even though Kishore has been sought after by many production houses, he is learnt not to be interested in them for this year.

Rarely has a director worked with a hero for a second time in quick succession in a long time.  Only time will till whether Ram has made the right choice.

All's Well Between The Brothers..!!

Following the demise of Rama Naidu, there were rumors of a rift between Suresh Babu and Venkatesh regarding division of assets. Apparently, that is not the case and even if there was one, it seems to be a thing of the past now.

Venkatesh will soon be doing a film which as usual will be produced by Suresh Babu. Malayalam director Jeetu Joseph (director of original Drushyam in Malayalam) has narrated a script to Suresh Babu which met with the latter’s approval.
The movie will soon go on floors and will be a straight film for Jeetu Joseph in Telugu. So, it’s business as usual in the Daggubati camp.

I was made to act like a fool: Nagarjuna..!!

Moments ago, Akkineni Nagarjuna interacted with the media in Hyderabad as part of promoting Soggade Chinni Nayana.  A question on the disastrous failure of his son's debut film Akhil naturally cropped up.  This made him become not only nostalgic but also analytical.

"There was a time when I was made to act like Chiranjeevi garu and Balakrishna garu, because it is these two who had been reigning when I made my entry into films.  Nearly seven films did not work until Geethanjali happened.  I was in confusion as to why things were not working for me.  After watching Mouna Ragam, I kept requesting Mani Ratnam garu for one month to make a film with me and this is how Geethanjali happened.  It changed my career forever," he said with a smile on his face.
"In Akhari Poratam, I was made to play Sridevi's second fiddle.  It was her film," he continued.

Juxtaposing that situation with that of Akhil, he revealed to the media that he has asked Akhil to do roles that suit his sensibilities.  "I have asked him to search for characters that suit his sensibilities.  May be, audience do not want to see him in routine characters," he analyzed.

It's the same romance with Ramya Krishna: Nagarjuna..!!

In a freewheeling chat, Nagarjuna answers several questions and gives out some interesting, unknown facts.

Why so much of gap after 'Manam'?
After Manam, I was into enjoying the success; I had been stressed before the release.  We worked very hard to make it a classic hit because of my father’s presence.  Then, I had to shoot for Meelo Evaru Kooteswarudu two seasons back to back.  Then came Oopiri, which had to be postponed for 3 months as Shruti Hassan could not do it.  Soggade Chinni Nayana was supposed to hit the screens for Dasara, but as Akhil’s movie was releasing, we pushed it to the next festival, Pongal.

You are doing dual role in Soggade.  Hello Brothers was a blockbuster.  Do you think the sentiment will work?
Initially, we did not think of me playing a dual role.  Ram Mohan narrated the story to me for 30 mins.. I really liked it.  It was originally the story of grandpa and grandson.  As we thought there would be a lot of complications with respect to artistes, make-up and such things, we changed it to father and son story.
Initially, we had no idea of setting the film in village backdrop.  It was an afterthought.  We felt it has been long since such a film came.  There are new visuals, new dialogue, new get-ups, everything is very new.

Is Ramu a shy guy?
No, my character is not shy, but studious; He doesn’t know anything else.  He doesn’t take about how his clothes are, hair is, he has no ‘loka gnanam’.  If such a person participates in MEK, he would be an utter flop. And yes, the character is inspired by a contestant of MEK; his name is Umakanth.  His wife told me he is so studious.

How has the romance worked in the film?
Romance is there throughout.  Bangarraju is a flirtatious zamindar, who looks always trim and smart.  He doesn’t let any woman pass by without complimenting her.  He doesn’t leave them without making them feel shy with his flirtation.

You, Naga Chaitanya and Akhil have posed with ‘pancha kattu’
My sons liked it a lot and suggested that they will pose wearing it with me.  A unit member too suggested the same and we did it for an interview.  It was all spontaneous.  I saw my father in pancha kattu and always found him very charming in it.  In his times, ANR panchalu became famous.  What he tried in Dasara Bullodu, I tried it in President Gari Pellam.  There are also nine jewels and a watch older than me.

How do you feel when you do romance with actresses who are in their 20s?
I don’t have any feelings.  When I have wrong thoughts, then may be, I should feel odd about it.  I am only acting.. I really get into the character.  I may be physically old, but I am only 21 in my mind.. This is the reason why I get along very well with my directors who are much younger.  I party with my sons and they are very comfortable.

Soggadde.. is releasing big-time.
I booked these theatres in November itself.  I expected one more big film to release, apart from mine.  I wanted to get the cream of the threatres.  It is not the number that is important for me.. It’s the quality.  Instead of going for 3 theatres in the same area, I went for one nice theatre.  It was always supposed to be between 500 and 600 theatres.  Manam was released in 600 theatres.  But we will surely add  more theatres in the second week.  What collections we will miss in the first week, we will recoup in the second week.

Your releases have always been in December.  Why January of late?
Pongal is a big time not just in Telugu, but also both TN and Karnataka.  It’s nothing new to release in January.  Nanna garu and NTR garu used to do it.  Even in their time, it used to be 2-3 films for Pongal.  I released Manmathudu in December because that year there were 3 films for Pongal.
Pongal has five holidays.  All sections of audience prepare to watch at least two films regardless of the number of releases.

What is the snake’s role Soggade?
It has a key role.
Snake has a role in your personal life, too.
When my grandma was pregnant with Nanna garu, Naga Devata appeared in her dreams and asked her to name her son after Her.  The tradition has continued since then in our family.

Tell us about the music
I should thank Anup Rubens for the excellent work he has done.  When we came to know about the death of Anup's mother, we doubted if he can overcome the grief and work for the film as per the schedule.  I contacted him after three days and told him I can understand the grief as I too have experienced it.  I told him that work is worship

Did working with Ramya Krishna bring the memories of Annamayya?
It brought me the memories of Hello Brother (laughs aloud).  Annamayya ante dandam pedata.  (laughs again).  Whatever romance was there between us in Hello Brother, we are sharing the same kind of romance in Soggadde as well.  She is the same then and now.

Did Akhil’s disaster deject you?
Dejected?  I could not come out of the shock for one full week!  It was a total shock because Akhil was  highly anticipated.. Right from the director, everyone worked very hard.  VV Vinayak worked well in the way he could.  Somewhere, the audience could not connect with the film.

Sometimes, one can’t explain why a film fails.  Take for example my film, Chandralekha.  It was a remake fil and Krishna Vamsi was in full form.  I was in full form.  But it flopped.  Even today, I don’t understand why it flopped.  When it is playing on TV, it gets very good ratings!

It is true that Akhil has to find his sensibilities.  I had eight flops before Geethanjali happened.  There was a time when I was made to act like Chiranjeevi garu and Balakrishna garu, because it is these two who had been reigning when I made my entry into films.  Nearly seven films did not work until Geethanjali happened.  I was in confusion as to why things were not working for me.  After watching Mouna Ragam, I kept requesting Mani Ratnam garu for one month to make a film with me and this is how Geethanjali happened.  It changed my career forever. In Akhari Poratam, I was made to play Sridevi's second fiddle.  It was her film

I have asked Akhil to search for characters that suit his sensibilities.  May be, audience do not want to see him in routine characters.

Are you going to do a film with K Raghavendar Rao?
He narrated to me a concept recently and I really liked it.  It is about a disciple of Lord Venkateswara.  But I will be able to take a call on it only after I am done with all my current assignments. There are plans to do a slick action flick.

Yes, there are.  I am keen on it.  Who will direct it, etc will be decided only after the script is ready. You had a surgery about ten years ago.Not many know about this.  I had had a leg problem ever since my first film was being shot.  A surgery had to be performed, but no expertise was available anywhere in the world.  For twenty years, I lived with that.  It was only ten years back that I had a specialised surgery in US.  Body parts from another were transplanted to me.  Now, I’m all right.

Tell us about the director..
He is a very good writer first.  He has excellent command over drama; he can make the actors convey the feelings very well.  He has very good command over the nativity.

What about Oopiri?
Oopiri is almost done.  Just some five days of work is pending.  We will release on a good date that suits both Telugu and Tamil.

How difficult was it to play the role?
I’m playing a totally paralyzed person here.  Even the neck movement is very mild.  It’s a full-on comedy. My relationship with Karthi is very funny.  There is no revenge element or things like that.  Even how I became a quadriplegic is not shown.  It was very depressing to play the role (laughs).  I had to be static and I would sometimes have ‘timmiri’ in my legs.  One assistant director was assigned the work of observing only me.  He would alert the director even if my finger moved a little.  (laughs).  It was very difficult as I’m used to tap my fingers whenever I talk.
